Story
The movie centers on Kabir (Ajay Devgn) and his family, whose contented lives are upended by evil’s dark power.
Balram (R. Madhavan) hypnotizes Janhavi (Janki Bodiwala), Kabir’s daughter, and refers to himself as her “god”.
Since Janhavi has complete influence over Balram, Kabir, his wife Jyoti (Jyotika), and their 8-year-old son are powerless.
Balram’s motivation is straightforward: he wants to take Janhavi with him, whether or not her parents agree.
Will Jyoti and Kabir let him? But how are they able to say no? Forms the rest of the movie.
SHAITAAN Review
Shaitaan, a story about a home invasion with a sinister twist, is a delightful mashup of paranormal fright and mental excitement.
The movie centers on just four persons and is set in a single location for the majority of it.
Since they have limited room and must leave the epic scope of the story, performers must do the majority of the heavy lifting in these situations.
They must also give it their all to make the story as thrilling as possible.
This film had the makings of a fantastic supernatural thriller. The tale is mediocre in the first half but becomes a muddled mess in the second half.
You feel deceived because you don’t obtain the important and required answers, and the climax leaves you with a bad aftertaste.
But the movie is watchable for the performance of R. Madhavan and Janki Bodiwala.
Performance
Ajay Devgn once again shows his class in Shaitaan but is under shadowed by Madhavan’s performance.
Madhawan’s act is a master class in self-control; his serene manner belies the chaos that lies underlying it.
His eyes allow the viewer to see the depth of his character’s mental state, Instead of coming at you with the suddenness of a jump scare, the fear he instills builds up, sneakily.
A relative newcomer to the industry, Janki puts on an absolutely incredible show. She portrays the character with a level of sincerity and intensity that defies her background.
Jyothika gives clean performance stands no shorter than her co-performers.
Technical Aspects
Vikas Bahl after the failure of Ganapath does a decent job in Gujarati remake Shaitaan.
Excellent cinematography and flawless images throughout the movie. In essence, this movie is more of a character presentation with a strong performance, and it accomplishes it effectively.
“Shaitaan”‘s soundtrack has a disturbing personality all its own. The film’s dark and eerie tone is expertly echoed by the music, which heightens the excitement and shivers at every moment. You’ll be thinking about the score long after the credits have rolled.
Conclusion
Vikas Bahl takes up the job of creating a generic horror thriller from an age-old formula.
However, he manages to hold the audience to the climax with an eerie atmosphere. Even though the movie has some plot holes, the movie is watchable thanks to the acting of R. Madhavan.
