Despite all of the drama, there is a very thin emotional thread that remains unbroken, and it has a gray tint.
Merry Christmas‘s Story
On a Christmas Eve in the 1990s, when Mumbai was still known as Bombay, the paths of two lonely individuals, Albert Vijay Sethupathi and Maria Katrina Kaif, cross.
Before a series of horrifying incidents threaten to permanently ruin their lives, they are pulled to one another!
It’s a straightforward film with a lovely beginning, but it takes an unexpected turn early on that somewhat jarringly changes the tone and takes the film in a totally different path without losing much of its already established charm and lightheartedness.
Anything more would only ruin the surprise, as the film keeps upping the ante on its ridiculousness to create a fun and original comedy of mistakes.
Merry Christmas Review
Merry Christmas is not so much a mystery as it is a love story.
It was inevitable that the odd casting decision of Vijay Sethupati and Katrina Kaif would be viewed with suspicion.
Nevertheless, the two give captivating performances, with Kaif (as Maria) delivering one of her best throughout her lengthy and distinguished career.
She portrays Maria’s inner anguish with flawless grace and has a wonderful understanding of it.
Vijay Sethupati does a fantastic job portraying Albert, a man seeking atonement.
The film’s potential is demonstrated by its outstanding soundtrack and memorable moments, but its slow pacing prevents it from reaching its full potential.
Even while it isn’t a cinematic masterpiece, it is nonetheless a worthy addition to the thriller genre, offering thrilling scenes intercut with narrative pauses.
Performance
Sriram Raghavan creates a feeling of suspense and mystery in his mastery of his art.
Sethupathi is really amazing; even in the most serious situations, his hilarious comments will leave you in stitches.
Katrina has also performed in a reserved manner.
The roles of Sanjay Kapoor, Ashwini Kalsekar, Tinnu Anand, Vinay Pathak as the adorable inspector, and Radhika Apte in a cameo have all been performed admirably.
Technical Aspects
The entire film’s direction and cinematography were excellent. It truly was providing stunning images with significant character secrets.
The film’s soundtrack, which combines sad cello laments and sitar twangs, is reminiscent of a monsoon rainfall on a Mumbai rooftop.
Conclusion
Merry Christmas is a masterclass in suspenseful storytelling and An emotional rollercoaster is provided by this thriller movie.
